New Delhi, Oct. 28 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will not increase parking charges for electric vehicles in its area and plans to add 47 charging stations by December as part of a broader push to promote cleaner transport and curb air pollution, its vice-chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal said on Wednesday.

At a press conference at Palika Kendra, Chahal announced that the civic body currently has 157 electric vehicle charging stations and aims to increase the number to 204 by December 31.

The council is also stepping up measures to control road dust, expand its green cover and improve waste management as pollution levels become a concern in the national capital.

Chahal announced that NDMC currently has 11 large mechanised road-sweeping machines, four small sweeping machines, four ride-on scrubbers and 20 litter-picker machines. It plans to add four large and four medium-sized road-sweeping machines, he added. The civic body has also deployed 20 litter-picker machines and plans to add four leaf-picker machines, according to the statement. "Water-mist systems have been installed on 500 electrical poles, with a target of extending the facility to 1,200 poles during the 2026-27 financial year. The system is expected to cover around 26.69 km of roads," Chahal said.
