Kolkata, Aug. 25 -- The Calcutta High Court on Tuesday barred police from taking coercive steps against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee till November 30 in three FIRs and directed him to cooperate with investigations.
The court noted that 16 FIRs were pending against Banerjee but limited the petition to three for which particulars were available. These were registered at Bhowanipore, Kalitala (Ashuti) and Bishnupur police stations.
It found prima facie that the Kalitala (Ashuti) and Bishnupur complaints did not identify Banerjee as an accused. The alleged incidents dated to 2017 and 2020, but the complaints were lodged after the election results.
Court also barred foreign travel without its leave, clarifying that this would not affect permission already granted for medical treatment.
