Kolkata, Oct. 28 -- BJP national president and Rajya Sabha MP Nitin Nabin is expected to visit the state next week and hold a series of meetings with the party's state leadership.
Sources within the party said that Nabin may discuss poll strategy and candidate selection for the upcoming polls in Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Howrah Municipal Corporation. According to sources, Nabin will be visiting Kolkata on November 2.
When asked about the civic body polls, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday said that the state election commission will notify elections after consulting the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs department. Polling for the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) and Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) may happen in December as voter list rectification was delayed due to delimitations.
During his visit, Nabin is expected to hold extensive discussions with senior state leaders on election strategy, organisational preparedness and the process for selecting candidates for the civic polls. The BJP had earlier indicated that its national president would visit Bengal before Kali Puja. Party sources said discussions during the upcoming visit are likely to focus on the BJP's strategy for the Kolkata and Howrah elections, including the finalisation of candidates and booth-level preparations.
Ahead of upcoming municipal elections, the state BJP has made its organisational appointments, bringing back two familiar faces, former state general secretary Sayantan Bose and party leader Pranoy Roy, as spokespersons. In the recent rejig, advocate Debjit Sarkar has been appointed the chief spokesperson of the state unit, while Anupam Ghosh has been made the media department convenor.
