Kolkata, Sept. 16 -- Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday met the families of people from Bengal who remain missing after the devastating flash floods in Nepal, assuring them that the state government was making every effort to trace their loved ones. The meeting was held at Nabanna.
Families of all 37 missing people attended the meeting, sources said.
"The CM assured them (the family members) that all-out efforts are being continued by the state government to trace the missing persons at the earliest. He also assured the families of the government's support and assistance whenever required," the CMO said.
Reportedly, the death toll in the Nepal flash floods climbed to 1,399 on Tuesday as more bodies were recovered from the eight affected districts, officials said. The number of missing people is estimated to be 5,170. The West Bengal government had earlier set up control rooms to cater to families seeking the whereabouts of their loved ones, and said it was in direct touch with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu to trace the missing persons. A rescue team from the state was also dispatched to Kathmandu to assist in the search operations.
