KOLKATA, July 26 -- BJP leader Keya Ghosh has filed a complaint against Bengali actress Sreelekha Mitra for allegedly carrying an "objectionable" poster of PM Narendra Modi during the student NEET protest march in Kolkata on July 24, based on which police have registered an FIR. The BJP leader termed the incident "disgusting".
Separate complaints have also been filed against Mitra at Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station and Baruipur Police Station by BJP supporters. "West Bengal CM Suvendu Adhikari is adopting zero tolerance for unrest. The actress needs to be arrested immediately," Ghosh said. A case has been registered against Mitra under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Responding to the allegations, the 'Rainbow Jelly' actress said on social media that she was wearing sunglasses instead of her power glasses during the rally and did not notice the content of the poster before posing with it. "It was a huge crowd and a group of young boys were going and they wanted a photograph and hence I posed without checking the poster. Also, at that time the police started to lathi charge the crowd, so I didn't see the poster," she said.
She also urged the CM to investigate those responsible for the deaths of his personal assistants. "If you still want to arrest me, then do it. Hang me if you want. Another protest will happen. Are you ready, I am ready?" she posted on social media. A few weeks earlier, an FIR had also been lodged against Mitra by a BJP supporter in connection with the Baruipur rape and murder case over her alleged social media posts that purportedly incited violence.
