India, Aug. 25 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has drawn up an extensive civic preparedness plan for the upcoming BRICS Summit, with round-the-clock sanitation, beautification and monitoring measures planned across the council area. NDMC Chairman Manoj Kumar Dwivedi said 41 major roads had been divided into 14 circles, each headed by a nodal officer who would conduct daily inspections with field teams. The council has also identified 15 locations for floral boards, nine for floral fountains and 17 roundabouts for special illumination and landscaping. Focus on cleanliness Additional sanitation workers and night-duty teams will be deployed from September 9 to 14. Mechanical road sweepers, scrubbers and other equipment will be used for intensive cleaning, while temporary dustbins and mobile toilets will be installed at identified locations. The council will also undertake pothole and footpath repairs, maintain storm-water drainage, inspect public toilets and ensure functioning streetlights. Special measures will be taken to prevent waterlogging during rainfall. Enforcement and monitoring NDMC will intensify action against encroachments, illegal parking and hoardings, inspect food establishments and strengthen mosquito control. A 24x7 command centre will monitor civic services during BRICS events.
