New Delhi, April 19 -- The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) continued to expand its flagship plantation campaign, 'Ek ped Maa Ke Naam', with a community-driven initiative at Palika Niwas in Lodhi Colony, underscoring the role of public participation in urban environmental efforts.
Leading the drive, NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal highlighted the significant contribution of Matri Shakti (women), whose active involvement lent strength and emotional resonance to the campaign. The programme began with prayers at the Balaji Temple within the housing complex, followed by a plantation drive involving residents and Resident Welfare Association (RWA) members.
Addressing the gathering, Chahal described the initiative as "an emotional and social commitment" that honours motherhood while encouraging environmental responsibility. He noted that the campaign is being carried forward with continuity, with plantation drives organised every Sunday and on other days to maintain momentum.
NDMC officials said a year-long "Sunday Green Calendar" has been prepared to guide plantation activities across multiple locations. Departments including horticulture, health, civil, and
sanitation are working in coordination to ensure scientific plantation practices, proper maintenance, and long-term sustainability of saplings.
The initiative aligns with the vision of Narendra Modi for Viksit Bharat @2047, which emphasises sustainable urban development and citizen engagement.
During the interaction, RWA representatives also raised local maintenance concerns, to which officials assured time-bound redressal.
