New Delhi, Sept. 8 -- With just four days left for the 18th BRICS Summit, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has moved into an intensified phase of preparations, running a round-the-clock command centre, deploying an expanded night sanitation force and coordinating a fresh inter-agency inspection of key routes leading to the venue.
An Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC), operational out of Palika Kendra since September 5 and functioning till September 14, is monitoring civic services through CCTV surveillance, field reports and inspections by senior officers, with nodal officers from departments such as civil engineering,
horticulture, public health, enforcement, transport and fire safety stationed in shifts, officials said.
Dedicated 24x7 phone lines have been activated at the centre to help departments and security agencies, including Delhi
Police, Traffic Police and CPWD, coordinate seamlessly through the summit period, they said.
"On the sanitation front, the civic body has deployed nearly 300 workers during the night shift along with 10 mechanical road sweepers since September 4, with the bulk of sweeping and waste-lifting work being carried out overnight so that major roads and public spaces are clean before the morning rush," officials added.
Fifteen Gobbler machines are being used during the day to collect scattered waste, while 11 pressure-jetting machines are deployed for deep cleaning of roads, footpaths and market areas, they said, adding that major markets are now being cleaned three times a day.
