India, May 11 -- New Delhi Municipal Council Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday led a plantation drive at Ashirwad Old Age Home on Kali Bari Marg to mark Mother's Day, linking environmental awareness with social responsibility under the campaign #EkPedMaaKeNaam_OnSunday. The initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam" campaign, encouraged citizens to plant trees in honour of their mothers while promoting environmental conservation. Senior citizens residing at the old age home participated in the drive alongside NDMC officials and staff members, planting saplings as symbols of care, gratitude and responsibility towards nature. During his visit, Chahal also inspected the facilities at Ashirwad Old Age Home, which is operated by the Samaj Kalyan Samiti under NDMC. Established in 2016, the facility currently houses 59 senior citizens and provides accommodation, healthcare, meals and recreational facilities. He directed officials from the civic body's welfare, civil, electrical and maintenance departments to address repair and maintenance issues within a fixed timeline. Chahal later shared lunch with the residents, who extended Mother's Day greetings and blessings to the Prime Minister. He also said NDMC would continue organising plantation drives every Sunday across New Delhi under its year-long Green Calendar initiative.
