New Delhi, Oct. 27 -- The National Drug Dependence Treatment Centre (NDDTC) at AIIMS, New Delhi, will coordinate a nationwide initiative to strengthen evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders and improve access to addiction care.
Union Health Minister J P Nadda launched the initiative on October 26 at Kartavya Bhawan. It will be implemented through six premier Central government institutions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare's Drug De-Addiction Programme.
The initiative forms part of the government's Vision Document on Narcotic Control 2026-2029, which aims to train 10,000 medical and allied healthcare professionals by March 2029.
Professor Anju Dhawan, chief of NDDTC, presented the implementation framework. Training will combine live online sessions, self-paced digital modules and in-person programmes for doctors, nurses, counsellors, psychologists and other healthcare personnel.
