Siliguri, July 26 -- The Land and Land Reforms department in Naxalbari has reported a significant increase in revenue collection following the change in government, after the Urban Development and Municipal Affairs minister directed
officials to focus on boosting state revenue.
According to officials, the department has collected nearly Rs 7 lakh in land revenue within just three months, compared to the Rs 10 lakh collected over an entire year during the previous Trinamool Congress government.
Dipanjan Majumdar, Naxalbari Land and Land Reforms Officer, said the department has intensified its revenue collection drive by focusing on the recovery of commercial land revenue, conducting raids, and identifying new commercial holdings for assessment.
"We have placed special emphasis on revenue collection. Commercial land revenue is being recovered through inspections and raids, while new commercial holdings are also being brought under the revenue net. Last year, the total collection stood at around Rs 9-10 lakh, whereas we have already collected Rs 7 lakh in just three months despite several challenges, following the new government's directives," Majumdar said.
Reacting to the development, Sadhan Chakraborty, BJP Mandal president of Naxalbari, claimed that the increased revenue collection after the directions of minister Agnimitra Paul exposed irregularities during the previous regime.
He claimed: "The figures indicated the existence of a syndicate culture. The revenue collected during the Trinamool Congress government did not always reach the state treasury."
