Ruling party workers alleged that they were campaigning for their candidate, Pabitra Kar, in the Bhekutia Panchayat area on Monday when BJP workers arrived at the same location to canvass for their candidate, Suvendu Adhikari. According to TMC leaders and workers, the BJP supporters allegedly began hurling verbal abuses, triggering an altercation that quickly escalated into a clash.

Several workers from both sides were injured in the violence. A motorcycle was reportedly pushed into a pond, while a few others were vandalised. Police, along with central force personnel, later reached the spot and brought the situation under control.

Though TMC leadership alleged that BJP workers attacked them when they were busy campaigning for Kar. The saffron party leaders, however, alleged that TMC-backed goons attacked them with arms. Both party leaderships, however, denied the allegations against them.
