Kolkata, June 21 -- The pressure on the Trinamool Congress' Kalighat camp appears to be mounting further as resignations continue across organisational and civic levels. In the latest setback for the Mamata-aligned faction, Itahar MLA Mosharraf Hossain resigned from the post of state president of the party's minority cell, triggering fresh political speculation.

Mosharraf stated he had informed the party that he no longer wished to continue in the organisational role. While citing personal reasons, his remarks also reflected unease over the current political situation. "Several things are happening. I am unable to stand beside party workers," he said. He also referred to his mother's illness after recently returning from Mecca.

Mosharraf also claimed that he had learnt about being appointed minority cell state president only through media reports and never received any official communication from the party. According to him, he conveyed his decision to step down verbally and said he would have submitted a written resignation had he formally received an appointment letter.

His resignation is politically significant as the minority cell has traditionally remained an important organisational pillar for Trinamool's minority outreach. He also acknowledged being in touch with Team Ritabrata, adding to speculation over possible political realignment.

Meanwhile, the resignation wave has spread to local bodies. In Sewli Gram Panchayat, chief Arun Kumar Ghosh resigned along with seven other Trinamool members.

Arun Kumar said the decision was taken to respect the people's mandate after the Assembly election and hinted that more resignations may follow. Naihati Municipality chairman Ashok Chattopadhyay also sent his resignation via email, after two councillors had already stepped

down earlier.

Ranaghat Municipality chairperson Kaushaldeb Bandyopadhyay resigned, citing prolonged health concerns and family reasons.

Fresh tremors were also felt in Birbhum district politics. After developments in Dubrajpur Municipality, the chairpersons of both Suri and Bolpur municipalities resigned. Suri Municipality chairman Ujjal Chattopadhyay and Bolpur Municipality chairperson Parna Ghosh - considered close to Anubrata Mandal - submitted their resignation letters to the Sub-Divisional Officer.
