New Delhi, July 6 -- Adopting a "zero-tolerance" approach towards waterlogging, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday directed officials to ensure time-bound action on monsoon-related issues while reviewing the progress of Mission Kayakalp, preparations for the Kanwar Yatra and infrastructure improvements in government schools.
Chairing a meeting of the District Development Committee (DDC) Apex Committee at the Delhi Secretariat, the Chief Minister reviewed works being carried out in two of the most dilapidated government schools identified in each district under Mission Kayakalp. The meeting was attended by MLAs, all 13 District Magistrates and senior officials. Reviewing school infrastructure, Gupta said the objective was not only to improve education but also to provide children with a clean, safe and inspiring learning environment. She appreciated district administrations that had developed libraries, STEM and science laboratories, computer labs, smart classrooms, renovated toilets, water coolers and wall paintings, while specially commending the District Magistrates of Outer North, North-East and New Delhi for their work.
She directed all District Magistrates to prioritise basic facilities such as toilets, drinking water, furniture, laboratories and libraries, making it clear that poorly maintained school toilets would not be tolerated.
The Chief Minister also reviewed monsoon preparedness and took stock of waterlogging-prone areas across the city, including Baljeet Nagar, Patel Nagar, Sangam Vihar, Bawana, Kirari, Patparganj, Laxmi Nagar, Krishna Nagar and Mandawali.
Reiterating her government's stance, Gupta said, "Waterlogging will not be accepted under any circumstances in the Capital. DDC Chairpersons and officials must personally monitor the situation on the ground." She directed officials to conduct field inspections instead of relying on reports, ensure timely desilting of drains, deploy pumps at vulnerable locations and improve coordination among agencies to resolve pending issues.
The meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Kanwar Yatra. District Magistrates were instructed to coordinate with organisers and ensure adequate arrangements for drinking water, sanitation, medical facilities, electricity and traffic management for devotees.
