New Delhi, Sept. 12 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on Saturday, reiterated the India-UAE Comprehensive Strategic Partnership as they discussed enhanced cooperation in various domains like defence, space, nuclear energy, technology, and innovation.
The bilateral talks, which took place at Hyderabad House on the sidelines of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi, were aimed at boosting economic cooperation as both leaders appreciated the launch of an $11.5 billion integrated greenfield aluminium plant project in Odisha by IHC of the UAE. The project, referred to as the biggest integrated aluminium investment in India, is set to make Odisha a world aluminium manufacturing hub.
"A strong India-UAE partnership at this uncertain juncture in West Asia is a sign of stability, prosperity and peace," tweeted PM Modi on the microblogging platform X after the talks.
Both sides emphasised the need for maintaining the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership that includes political, cultural, business and energy cooperation, as well as robust people-to-people links, according to the Ministry of External Affairs.
They also mentioned the recent high-level visits by both countries, such as the visit by Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in January 2026 and Narendra Modi's visit to the UAE in May of this year.
The discussion also included the UAE's participation in BRICS during India's chairship. Modi thanked Abu Dhabi for its "proactive and constructive participation" in the organisation, while both sides acknowledged the positive results obtained during the Indian chairmanship.
It has been reported that they decided to move forward together via BRICS in order to serve their common interests and priorities.
They also deliberated on the role of L'Imad, which is the newest sovereign investment fund of the UAE, in order to deepen their bilateral economic and investment relations. They examined ways in which cooperation can be enhanced in the strategic and new sectors, especially defence, space, nuclear energy, technology and innovation.
The aluminium project worth US$11.5 billion is expected to strengthen even more the investment aspect of India-UAE relations. This project would help in the development of industries in Odisha and is envisaged to build up the entire ecosystem of aluminium production in India.
