
Chandigarh, July 9 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday said the state will develop world-class sports infrastructure under its Mission Olympic 2036 vision to help Indian athletes win the maximum number of medals at the Olympic Games.
Chairing a review meeting on Mission Olympic 2036 in Chandigarh, Saini announced that 11 sports centres will be established in the first phase with an estimated investment of around Rs 800 crore. Minister of State for Sports Gaurav Gautam was also present at the meeting. The proposed centres will come up at the Sports University in Rai, State Sports Complex in Palwal, TDL Sports Complex in Panchkula, and facilities in Ambala and Kurukshetra. Sports complex private academies will also be developed in Karnal, Jind, Gohana and Yamunanagar.
The meeting focused on identifying and nurturing young talent, especially athletes in the 13-16 age group. The Chief Minister said the Sports University, Rai, has been designated as the nodal agency for the Olympic 2036 Talent Mission, which will function under the supervision of Sports Minister Gaurav Gautam.
Saini said around 1,200 young athletes will receive specialised training at these centres across various disciplines. The initiative will also prepare athletes for the 2028 Asian Games.
He added that Olympic medal-winning coaches will be engaged for training, while 23 additional sports centres with accommodation and dining facilities will also be developed.
