Kolkata, July 26 -- The body of a six-year-old boy, who was missing since Saturday, was recovered from a forested area in the Turipara neighbourhood of Asansol on Sunday morning.
The discovery has triggered intense panic and outrage across the locality, with family members and residents strongly suspecting foul play.
The deceased, identified as Rithwik Ruj, the son of Chhotu Ruj, a local mason, and Purnima Ruj, a domestic help, went missing on Saturday morning shortly after his parents left home for their respective jobs. When they returned later in the afternoon and could not find him, the family launched a frantic search with the help of neighbours. Despite combing the nearby areas till Saturday night, the child could not be located. Later, they lodged a missing complaint at the Asansol South Police Station.
The breakthrough came early Sunday morning when residents noticed a pack of stray dogs barking aggressively near a patch of dense bushes in Ward 54. Upon investigating, locals discovered the boy's body in the undergrowth and immediately alerted the authorities. A team from the Asansol South police station rushed to the spot following the discovery.
Police subsequently cordoned off the area, conducted a preliminary forensic examination, and sent the body to the district hospital for an autopsy.
