Mirik, June 9 -- A female leopard trapped in an abandoned dry reservoir at Rai Dhap in Kaole, under Ward No. 6 of Mirik Municipality, was successfully rescued by forest officials on Tuesday.

The rescue operation was led by Ranger Siddharth Gurung after reports emerged that the animal had been stuck in the reservoir for several days. Forest personnel safely rescued the leopard and shifted it for a medical examination.

"The rescued leopard is a female, aged around two years.

The animal will be released into a suitable habitat after its health assessment is completed," said Gurung.

A similar rescue operation was carried out at the same location nearly nine months ago.

Frequent sightings of leopards in and around Rai Dhap have created concern among local residents, who fear possible encounters between wildlife and humans.

Following the rescue, Gurung urged the authorities to take necessary steps to properly manage the reservoir.

He suggested installing protective fencing around the water body or implementing other preventive measures to stop wild animals from accidentally falling into it.
