Kolkata, May 24 -- A school student from Behala has alleged that she was abducted in a car, drugged and gang-raped, following which Kolkata Police registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the POCSO Act. The TMC, in a post on X, slammed the newly elected BJP government and questioned their pre-poll promise of "women safety."

According to the complaint lodged by the girl's mother in the Sarsuna Police Station, the incident allegedly took place between April 17 and 18. The minor was reportedly approached in Behala and offered a lift in a car where two unidentified men and one of her school friends were already present. After getting into the vehicle, she was allegedly given chocolate mixed with sedatives, causing her to lose consciousness.

The complaint further stated that the girl was taken to an unidentified location where she was allegedly sexually assaulted by the accused. The accused also allegedly recorded an objectionable video of the survivor and threatened her with dire consequences if she informed the police.

Due to the trauma suffered by the girl after the alleged incident, the family could not immediately lodge an FIR, the complaint stated. Police said the case was registered on Wednesday under Sections 123, 351(2) and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 4, 6 and 10 of the POCSO Act.

The disturbing allegation has once again brought the issue of women's safety into sharp political focus, with the Trinamool Congress launching a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government. In a strongly worded post on X, the party questioned the BJP's promises of ensuring "Nari Suraksha" in Bengal following its electoral victory.

Calling the alleged crime "monstrous", the TMC demanded the strictest punishment for all those involved and asked whether the Chief Minister would take immediate action. Investigators are now trying to identify and trace the accused, locate the vehicle used in the alleged crime and determine the place where the assault allegedly took place.
