Kolkata, July 8 -- West Bengal Minister for Public Works Department (PWD) and Public Health Engineering (PHED), Dr. Ajay Kumar Poddar, on Tuesday directed officials of the state government-owned engineering and construction company, Mackintosh Burn Limited, to prioritise public welfare projects while maintaining innovation, transparency and high construction standards during his visit to review its ongoing operations and future plans.

He emphasised that experienced institutions like Mackintosh Burn play a crucial role in accelerating the state's infrastructure development, ensuring quality construction and completing projects within stipulated timelines.

The minister was welcomed by the company's Managing Director, Binoy Majumdar, along with senior officials, who presented a detailed overview of the organisation's history, achievements, ongoing projects and future roadmap.

Officials informed the minister that Mackintosh Burn Limited, established in 1834 and now functioning as a government-owned enterprise under the West Bengal government, has executed several major infrastructure projects across the country and continues to undertake development works using modern technology while maintaining high-quality standards.

During the presentation, officials highlighted the company's mission and vision, its projects executed for various government departments and public sector organisations, organisational structure, and its ongoing infrastructure projects in West Bengal and other states.

They also stated that the organisation has a workforce of more than 500 employees, including 214 technical experts, 290 operational staff and 14 senior executive officers, who ensure the timely completion of projects without compromising on quality.

Praising the organisation's contribution, Poddar said Mackintosh Burn Limited is an important part of West Bengal's rich engineering heritage.

The meeting also included detailed discussions on the effective implementation of projects under the PWD and PHED departments, enhancing the use of technical expertise, and formulating future infrastructure development plans.
