Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- The first push trolley inspection of the Beleghata-IT Centre section of the Orange Line was conducted on September 17 after completion of the viaduct and ballastless track works, paving the way for electrical works on the 4.46-km stretch, Metro Railway said on Sunday.
The section has three stations - Gour Kishore Ghosh, Nalban and IT Centre. "With the viaduct and ballastless track (BLT) works on the section now complete, the stretch is ready for beginning of the electrical works," a Metro official said.
Metro authorities had earlier set December 31, 2026, as the target for commissioning the Beleghata-IT Centre section for passenger services.
The section had faced delays because of a 366-metre viaduct gap between Beleghata and Gour Kishore Ghosh stations at Chingrighata. Construction of the missing viaduct stretch began in mid-May after permissions were secured for traffic blocks at the busy intersection. Completion of the viaduct connection subsequently allowed the track-related works to progress.
The Beleghata-IT Centre section is the third phase of the 32-km Kavi Subhash-Jai Hind Bimanbandar Metro corridor, which was sanctioned in 2010 and is being executed in five phases. The Orange Line currently operates between Kavi Subhash and Beleghata, with the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay section (first phase) commissioned in March 2024 and passenger services on the Hemanta Mukhopadhyay-Beleghata section (second phase) beginning in August 2025.
