India, Aug. 13 -- To prevent bird strikes during the Independence Day aerial display, black kites will be lured to four designated feeding points around the Red Fort with chicken meat, officials said on Wednesday. The exercise is being conducted in coordination with the Indian Air Force (IAF). The feeding points have been identified around the event area and along the aircraft flight path based on bird movement and proximity to the flight corridor. Pieces of meat will be placed at the designated spots to attract the birds and keep them away from the route while aircraft operate at low altitudes. Forest department officials said black kites are commonly found in large numbers in Delhi and are naturally attracted to food sources and open areas, making their presence along flight paths a potential safety risk. The exercise has received approval and has already begun. A similar measure was undertaken during Republic Day.
