New Delhi, Oct. 31 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Standing Committee on Friday approved a Rs 923.57-crore project to deploy 70 mechanical road sweeping machines across the city for 10 years to curb dust pollution. The committee, chaired by Satya Sharma, also approved the introduction of a barrier-free toll collection system at 126 entry points to Delhi and directed officials to initiate recruitment for 1,066 vacant posts in the Public Health Department.

Under the road sweeping project, smaller machines will operate on electricity, while larger machines will have the option of using electricity or compressed natural gas (CNG). The project has been divided into three packages, awarded to Lion Services Limited (29 machines) for Rs 369.53 crore, GA Infra-VN Engineering consortium (28 machines) for Rs 368.83 crore, and JS

Enviro Services Private Limited (13 machines) for Rs 185.20 crore. The agencies will also be responsible for their

operation and maintenance for 10 years.

The committee also approved upgrading the existing RFID-based toll collection system to Multi-Lane Free Flow technology. The system will use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to collect road tax and Environment Compensation Charge (ECC) without requiring commercial vehicles to stop at barriers. The project will run for six years, including six months for implementation.

Meanwhile, the 1,066 vacant public health posts include 14 Anti-Malaria Officers, 105 Malaria Inspectors, 398 Assistant Malaria Inspectors and 549 multi-tasking staff positions. Sharma directed officials to begin recruitment immediately, including

contractual appointments if regular recruitment takes time.

She also asked zonal deputy commissioners to conduct surprise inspections, address councillors' grievances at the zonal level and ensure that at least one park in

every ward is equipped with a rainwater harvesting system.
