India, July 1 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday announced the induction of 76 additional sanitation vehicles and equipment for Shahdara North and Shahdara South zones, while also reviewing infrastructure and redevelopment works across key areas of Shahdara South. The sanitation expansion was flagged off at Mahavir Swami Park in Shastri Park by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways and Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra in the presence of Mayor Pravesh Wahi, Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar and other civic officials. Also Read - Fire destroys goods worth crores at electronics store According to the Corporation, 52 sanitation resources have been allocated to Shahdara North and 24 to Shahdara South. The new fleet includes tippers, hook loaders, battery-operated rickshaws, mini refuse collectors and mini dumpers aimed at improving waste collection and sanitation coverage, particularly in congested and narrow residential areas. Addressing the gathering, Malhotra said the strengthening of sanitation infrastructure reflected the government's continued focus on making Delhi cleaner and reducing waste accumulation across the city. Civic leaders also called for greater public participation in maintaining cleanliness standards. Separately, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar carried out an extensive inspection of development works in Shahdara South and directed officials to expedite ongoing projects while ensuring adherence to quality standards. During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed construction at the old zonal building in Vishwas Nagar and instructed officials to maintain close monitoring for timely completion. At Karkardooma Market, he directed the preparation of a comprehensive redevelopment plan covering roads, drainage, parking, lighting and civic infrastructure. The inspection also included Rishabh Vihar Market and the C&D waste site at Karkari Mor, where officials were asked to ensure environmental compliance, dust control and systematic waste management operations.
