New Delhi, Oct. 23 -- Around 4,000 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) employees in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) Public Health department will receive increased salaries under the principle of "equal pay for equal work", with the revised payments directly credited to their bank accounts, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Friday.

The revised salary will be based on the minimum of Level 1 of the pay matrix, amounting to Rs.18,000 per month, along with variable Dearness Allowance (DA). The decision will cost the civic body around Rs.52 crore annually, Mayor Pravesh Wahi said at a felicitation event held at the MCD headquarters.

Addressing the employees at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium, Gupta said the decision recognised nearly three decades of service by workers who were recruited during Delhi's 1996 dengue outbreak and have since contributed to public health through door-to-door outreach.

She said the government was committed to protecting the dignity and welfare of employees working on the ground, adding that better remuneration and job-related security would boost their morale.

Wahi said the salary revision had been approved after the government was informed of its annual financial implications. He added that the MCD was working with the Delhi government to implement development initiatives.

The Mayor also announced plans to recruit 2,500 sanitation workers to improve cleanliness across Delhi, particularly in markets, ahead of Diwali. MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar said the posts, created during the 1997 dengue outbreak, were later redesignated as MTS (Public Health). The revised pay structure is expected to boost employee morale and encourage

dedicated service.
