India, Aug. 24 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified sanitation and environmental improvement measures in its South West Zone under the "Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi" campaign, with nearly 390 tonnes of dust removed from roads and 29 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) cleaned thrice daily. Between August 17 and 22, the zone carried out intensive manual and mechanised cleaning operations across major road stretches, markets and vulnerable waste-accumulation points. According to the MCD, around 79 km of roads were manually deep-cleaned, resulting in the removal of nearly 190 tonnes of dust. Another 200 tonnes was lifted through mechanical road sweeping machines.
The campaign also focused on preventing waste accumulation at 29 GVPs, which were cleaned three times a day. Night sweeping was undertaken at 25 markets to maintain sanitation in high-footfall commercial areas. As part of efforts to improve public infrastructure, 22 potholes were repaired during the period. The civic body also undertook plantation activities, adding 212 trees and 73 shrubs to the zone's green cover. South West Zone DC Shashvat Saurabh said regular road cleaning, mechanised dust removal, GVP cleaning, night sweeping, pothole repairs and plantation would continue to improve cleanliness and environmental conditions across the zone.
