New Delhi, Nov. 2 -- The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday distributed appointment letters to 46 dependents of deceased civic body employees under its compassionate appointment scheme, offering them employment as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Public Health Department.
The appointment letters were handed over by Mayor Pravesh Wahi at a ceremony held at the Satya Narayan Bansal Auditorium at the Corporation headquarters. The initiative is aimed at extending employment support to families who have lost their earning members while serving in the civic body.
Addressing the gathering, Wahi said the MCD remained committed to safeguarding the interests and welfare of its employees and providing assistance to their families during difficult circumstances. He described civic workers as an essential link in the delivery of municipal services, particularly sanitation, which depends on their continued efforts.
The Mayor also highlighted other employment-related measures undertaken by the civic body, including the regularisation of 1,467 sanitation workers. He referred to the recent disbursement of salaries to around 4,000 MTS employees in the Public Health Department under the principle of 'equal pay for equal work', facilitated by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Wahi said the BJP-led administration in the MCD was prioritising employee welfare and protecting the rights of its workforce. Referring to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Delhi Chief Minister, he said the Corporation was working towards improving the conditions of its employees.
Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, DDA member Rajiv Babbar, Municipal Health Officer Ashok Rawat and senior civic officials were present at the event.
The latest appointments come amid the civic body's stated efforts to address employment-related concerns among its workforce. Compassionate appointments are intended to provide a measure of financial stability to families of employees who die in service, while also addressing the challenges faced by their dependents following the loss of the primary breadwinner.
