
New Delhi, May 24 -- A 31-year-old man died after being brutally stabbed by a group of assailants in Outer North Delhi's Shahbad Dairy area, following which Delhi Police arrested a 20-year-old suspect, officials said.
The accused has been identified as Suraj (20), son of Shivani and a resident of Shahbad Dairy.
Police said the deceased, Narayan Dutt, son of Ram Babu, was a resident of Gupta Colony in Prahladpur, Delhi.
According to police, information regarding the stabbing incident was received through a PCR call at Shahbad Dairy Police Station on May 23. A police team rushed to Mahadev Chowk in Shahbad Dairy and later reached Maharishi Valmiki Hospital in Pooth Khurd, where the injured man had been admitted for treatment.
Narayan Dutt had sustained multiple sharp-edged injuries in the attack. His Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report mentioned an alleged history of stabbing, and doctors initially declared him unfit to give a statement due to his critical condition, police said.
During the preliminary investigation, police examined CCTV footage installed near the crime scene. Officials said the footage showed three youths allegedly assaulting the victim before fleeing the spot.
Based on the findings, a case was registered at Shahbad Dairy Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 109(1) and 3(5).
Later, Section 103(1) of the BNS relating to murder was added after Narayan Dutt succumbed to his injuries and was declared brought dead at Safdarjung Hospital.
Police said multiple teams were formed to identify and trace the accused persons. Investigators have been analysing CCTV footage from nearby areas and conducting raids at possible hideouts to track down the remaining suspects involved in the murder.
During the course of the investigation, one of the alleged assailants, Suraj, was apprehended, police said.
Efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused persons, while the motive behind the attack is yet to be ascertained,
officials added.
