New Delhi, Oct. 24 -- A man was arrested in Bandel, Hooghly, for allegedly making derogatory remarks against West
Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari during a Facebook Live session. The arrest followed a
complaint lodged by a BJP functionary at Chinsurah police station.
The accused, identified as Kartik Banik, alias Babu, is a resident of Hemanta Basu Colony in Bandel. He reportedly said after his arrest that he had made the remarks while intoxicated and expressed regret over his actions. He also claimed that he was not associated with any political party.
Local residents said Banik had often made critical remarks about the chief minister during conversations at tea stalls and other gatherings in the neighbourhood. They also claimed that he had previously supported the Trinamool Congress, though it was unclear whether he had ever been actively involved in the party.
