Cooch Behar, Sept. 10 -- A man allegedly attacked his sister-in-law with a sharp weapon before committing suicide by hanging at his residence in Cooch Behar town on Thursday, triggering tension in Ward No. 6 near Shani Mandir.
The deceased were identified as Seradeepa Talukdar De and her brother-in-law Sanjeev Kumar De, alias Kalu. According to family members, the two had been involved in a long-standing dispute over family matters.
Seradeepa was married to Sanjeev's brother, Subrata De, who was jailed in a case shortly after their marriage. This led to repeated disputes between Seradeepa and Sanjeev over his release. The two reportedly had an altercation on Thursday morning. Seradeepa's son was at home, while Sanjeev's wife and daughter were away. Sanjeev's daughter said the family returned home to find a crowd outside and Seradeepa injured in a sharp-weapon attack. Family members then found Sanjeev hanging inside the house.
