Kolkata, Aug. 31 -- The Trinamool Congress' internal battle over the party's ownership, election symbol and funds remains unresolved even as August draws to a close.
With the Election Commission yet to take a final decision on the dispute between the Mamata and Ritabrata camps, TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee has written to the poll panel for the third time, seeking an early resolution.
Following the Assembly elections, a separate Trinamool Congress was formed under the leadership of Ritabrata Banerjee with a section of MLAs. The subsequent tussle over the ownership of the twin-flower symbol and party funds eventually reached the Election Commission.
The EC issued notices to both factions on July 2, asking them to submit their respective claims.
Within the given time, the Mamata camp, represented by MPs including Mahua Moitra and Sagarika Ghose, had submitted its evidence. The Ritabrata camp, meanwhile, sought additional time.
Mamata subsequently wrote to the EC on July 13 and 29, objecting to the extension and urging the commission to settle the matter quickly.
A decision was expected by July 25. However, with no final decision forthcoming, Mamata has now sent another letter to the commission on Monday, making it her third communication seeking an early resolution of the dispute.
In her latest letter, Mamata urged the EC to expedite the decision on the party symbol and funds. Written statements from several MLAs have also reportedly been attached, alleging that the commission was previously deliberately misled.
