Malda, May 24 -- A pall of gloom descended on Ramshimul village under Rashidabad Gram Panchayat in Harishchandrapur-I block of Malda after a 24-year-old migrant worker was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Delhi. The deceased, identified as Sheikh Ujjal, had reportedly gone to Delhi only ten days ago in search of work.
According to local sources, Ujjal was employed at a plastic sorting factory in the Bhapura area, allegedly owned by a fellow villager, Sambul Haque. On Thursday evening, his hanging body was recovered from the factory premises, triggering shock and outrage among family members back home.
The family has alleged that Ujjal was murdered and later hanged to portray it as suicide. They claimed there were injury marks on his body and signs suggesting that his hands had been tied with ropes before death. Tension further escalated after the family accused the factory authorities of sending the body back to the village in a coffin by ambulance without conducting a post-mortem examination.
"My husband was killed. There were bruises all over his body. We want a proper investigation and justice," alleged Ujjal's wife, Ruksana Bibi, while breaking down in tears.
Villagers have demanded a fair probe into the incident and strict action against those responsible.
