Kolkata, Oct. 1 -- Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has filed a complaint at Delhi's Parliament Street Police Station seeking registration of an FIR against Election Commission of India Director General (IT) Seema Khanna, alleging irregularities in the functioning of the poll panel's voter-roll software.
In her complaint, Moitra alleged that the centralised software system curtailed the statutory powers of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to add, delete and correct names in electoral rolls. She claimed that the system enabled changes to voter data without adequate involvement of local election officials.
Moitra also referred to reported objections raised by Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi over the functioning of the system and cited an alleged communication from Deputy Election Commissioner Sanjay Kumar asking that EROs' statutory powers should not be restricted.
The complaint also cited a reported case in Goa, where 97 voters who were found eligible by EROs allegedly remained excluded from the final electoral roll published in February 2026. Moitra has sought an investigation into the alleged centralisation of electoral-roll data and the role of the ECI's IT division.
The development comes days after Moitra filed a complaint against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision process.
On social media, Moitra said the officer in-charge had sought time till October 5 to examine whether a case was made out for registration of an FIR. She said she would return to the police station on October 6 to follow up on the matter.
