Kolkata, May 24 -- In a fresh organisational reshuffle ahead of upcoming political battles in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress has appointed senior party leader Madan Mitra as the president of its Dum Dum organisational district unit. The party has circulated another notice appointing Sreedip Das as the president of its youth wing in South Kolkata area.

The move is being seen as an effort by the Trinamool Congress leadership to strengthen its organisational base in the politically significant Dum Dum region.

Known for his mass connect and outspoken political style, Madan Mitra remains one of the party's most recognisable leaders in North 24 Parganas and surrounding areas.

Mitra's appointment carries added significance as he managed to retain the Kamarhati Assembly seat even during a period when the BJP registered a massive electoral surge across Bengal.

Despite the saffron party's strong performance in several constituencies, Madan Mitra secured victory from Kamarhati with a comfortable margin of 5646 votes, reinforcing his influence in the region and his popularity among grassroots workers.

Political observers believe the latest organisational changes reflect the ruling party's attempt to consolidate its cadre base after the 2026 Assembly elections. The Trinamool Congress leadership has been focusing on revamping district and local units to improve coordination between senior leaders, youth workers and grassroots organisations.
