Kolkata, July 30 -- Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Thursday held 'Janatar Darbar' at the BJP's party office in Salt Lake, where he listened to the grievances of many people.
A woman hailing from Punjab told the Chief Minister that her in-laws' ancestral property in South Kolkata has allegedly been occupied. In her complaint to the Chief Minister, she has named former TMC MLA Debasish Kumar, accusing him of being involved in the land grab.
Kiran Gupta, a resident of Manohar Pukur Road, alleged that her in-laws' property on the same road was forcibly taken over and that a multi-storey building was subsequently constructed on the land.
Gupta also claimed that she and her family now reside in Punjab, while a relative had been living at the Kolkata property. The woman also alleged that her relative was assaulted by the people sent by Kumar before the house was occupied forcibly. The woman stated that she has been pursuing the matter with various authorities for the past 10 to 15 years, but no action had been taken.
A mother of a college student from Nadia's Krishnanagar, who alleged that her daughter was raped and murdered, and her body was burnt with acid in October 2024.
The woman attended "Janatar Darbar" and alleged that the police had tried to pass it off as a suicide case. She also alleged that the family could register an FIR only after legal intervention, but the investigation made "little progress".
The woman urged Adhikari to ensure a fresh probe. She also recalled that Adhikari had visited their residence after the incident happened when he was the Opposition Leader. A nursing staff member, Mohua Maiti, met the Chief Minister and alleged that during the previous Trinamool Congress government, there was rampant nepotism in the transfer of health professionals.
