New Delhi/Leh, Sept. 8 -- Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena has been given additional charge of Jammu and Kashmir during the leave of incumbent LG Manoj Sinha, the Rashtrapati Bhavan said Tuesday. Saxena will begin the assignment by administering the oath to Justice Pushpendra Singh Bhati as Chief Justice of the J&K and Ladakh High Court at 11 am in Srinagar.
The arrangement marks the first time since Ladakh became a Union Territory in August 2019 that its LG will administer the oath to the high court's chief justice. Sinha, who became J&K LG on August 7, 2020, is currently in the US and addressed an IIT (BHU) alumni meet in Chicago on Monday. Justice Bhati, appointed on September 5, will succeed Acting Chief Justice Sanjeev Kumar. The Collegium recommended his name on August 31.
Meanwhile, a permanent high court bench in Ladakh took effect on September 5 under a regulation promulgated on August 27.
