India, July 5 -- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday reviewed the overall situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra 2026. He also took stock of the pilgrims' movement, traffic management, security, accommodation, and registration issues in the region. The Lieutenant Governor was briefed on all aspects while addressing a high-level review meeting convened today. Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, DGP Nalin Prabhat, Special DG Coordination PHQ SJM Gillani, Principal Secretary Home Chandraker Bharti, Intelligence Bureau Joint Director Pankaj Thakur, besides several other senior administrative, security, and shrine board officials were present in the meeting.
"An unprecedented number of unregistered pilgrims have been arriving in J&K over the past few days resulting in huge crowds and long queues at various checkpoints. In view of this, the situation was being closely monitored as the Amarnath Yatra follows the Supreme Court-mandated pilgrim control policy. As such pilgrims who have not applied for a permit for a particular date should consider deferring their visit due to heavy footfalls. Only those having a valid permit for a specific date will be allowed to undertake the Yatra to the Holy Cave Shrine," the Lieutenant Governor said.
