India, June 16 -- Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Monday inaugurated an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (ASK) in Vikaspuri, adding a new Aadhaar service facility in West Delhi aimed at improving access to enrolment, demographic updates and biometric services. The inauguration was attended by Transport, Health and IT Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh, West Delhi MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat, UIDAI officials and local residents. The centre has been established under the second phase of the Unique Identification Authority of India's (UIDAI) Aadhaar Service Centre expansion programme. Speaking at the event, Sandhu said, "Aadhaar has become a vital pillar of India's Digital Public Infrastructure, enabling transparent, efficient and inclusive delivery of public services to citizens." He said Aadhaar supports direct benefit transfers, financial inclusion and service delivery, and stressed the need for timely biometric updates for children to avoid future authentication issues. "Our goal is to build an Aadhaar-enabled and digitally empowered Delhi where every citizen can seamlessly access essential government services," he said. The minister said Aadhaar plays an important role in access to welfare schemes and healthcare services. He added that Aadhaar enrolment facilities are being integrated with birth registration services in MCD and NDMC institutions to facilitate enrolment of newborns at the time of registration. He also urged parents to ensure timely biometric updates for their children. The centres collectively serve thousands of residents daily. UIDAI officials said more than 4.5 lakh children between 5 and 17 years of age in Delhi have updated their biometrics since September 2025 under an ongoing biometric update campaign. The authority is also working to increase Bal Aadhaar coverage among children aged 0-5 years. Officials said online appointment booking is available at all Aadhaar Seva Kendras in Delhi. Two additional centres, planned for Central Delhi and North-East Delhi, are currently in the final stages of operational planning.
