India, Aug. 29 -- Delhi Lieutenant Governor TS Sandhu and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday celebrated Raksha Bandhan and extended greetings to people, with both highlighting the festival's message of affection, trust and togetherness. Gupta celebrated the festival with children living on the streets at the Mukhyamantri Jan Sewa Sadan, where the children tied rakhis to her wrist. She interacted with them about their education, interests, lives and future goals, and listened to their dreams and aspirations. According to an official statement, some of the children in the group were admitted to schools on the instructions of officials. Gupta assured the children that the Delhi government would support their education and overall well-being, helping them build a better future.
The Chief Minister emphasised that every child should have the opportunity to dream and receive the necessary support to turn those aspirations into reality. She encouraged the children to continue studying and remain focused on their goals, while stressing the importance of providing children from vulnerable backgrounds with dignity, security and access to opportunities. The interaction was part of the government's outreach to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and underlined the need to ensure that their circumstances do not become a barrier to education and growth. In a post on X, Gupta said Raksha Bandhan was a sacred festival of affection, trust and duty that reflected the strength of familial values. She wished that the bond would bring happiness, prosperity and warmth to every home and that the love between brothers and sisters would remain unbreakable. Sandhu celebrated Raksha Bandhan at Lok Niwas, where women from his security team tied rakhis to him. He said the gesture reflected love, trust, togetherness and community.
