KOLKATA, July 16 -- From emotionally charged dramas to stories of self-discovery and accounts of personal struggles set against the backdrop of the collapse of Venezuela's Second Republic, the three-day Venezuelan Film Festival at Nandan III offers audiences a glimpse into the country's culture, history and way of life on the northern coast of South America.

Like the past three years, the fourth Kolkata Venezuelan Film Festival has returned to Nandan III and will continue till July 18.

Organised by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in association with the Forum for Film Studies and Allied Arts, the festival showcases a curated selection of acclaimed Venezuelan films.

Conceptualised and designed by Barun Ray, who also serves as the programme director, the festival has become particularly popular among students of film studies.

Among the highlights is Diego Salomon's latest film, 'Los Batracios', which follows two couples over the course of a single evening.

As conversations grow increasingly intense, the narrative transforms into an emotional battleground, putting the strength of every relationship to the test. Also being screened is Roman Chalbaud's 2009 historical drama 'Zamora:

Tierra y Hombres Libres', which chronicles a pivotal period in Venezuelan history between 1843 and 1860. The film culminates in the Battle of Santa Ines, fought in 1859, one of the defining events of the Federal War.
