Kolkata, Sept. 28 -- In a major push toward digital governance and operational accountability, Kolkata Police is set to launch a new smartphone app, 'Duty Mitra' aimed to track and monitor the police personnel deployed on active duty across the city.
The app is designed to streamline the force deployment, ensure punctual attendance, and eliminate instances of duty evasion.
According to sources, the app will digitise the daily deployment roster and give police station heads real-time oversight of their staff. Officers-in-Charge (OC) will be able to upload duty charts directly onto the platform, assigning specific locations and tasks to their subordinate personnel. To verify their presence at an assigned spot, on-duty personnel must log into the app and upload a live photograph from their location. The application automatically records and traces the exact GPS coordinates and time-stamp onto the image. This automated system creates an unalterable digital log, effectively resolving any future disputes regarding late arrivals or unauthorised absences from a post.
Often, problem crops up over police personnel do not reach their designated duty spots on time or stays absent even after their names are in roaster.
When those police personnel are show caused they often cite the issue of miscommunication of delayed communication as a cause for their defence.
The Kolkata Police administration is currently conducting trial runs across multiple divisions to fix initial technical glitches. The city police authorities are planning to implement and roll out the app across the entire force ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja days, where managing massive crowds and sprawling security layouts will serve as the system's first major test.
