Kolkata, Oct. 13 -- The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) will introduce a new online system from October 27 to make it easier for traders and business owners to obtain and renew trade licences, register carts and pay Solid Waste Management (SWM) charges.

According to KMC officials, a circular has been issued by the municipal commissioner in this regard. The new system will allow users to apply for licences, renew them, pay dues and track applications online, reducing the need to visit KMC offices.

The existing e-KMC 1.0 system will stop functioning from October 15, while the new platform will go live on October 27. Under the new system, business owners will be able to apply for a fresh Certificate of Enlistment, commonly known as a trade licence, renew an existing certificate, update certain business details and apply for closure of a licence. They will also be able to check unpaid dues, make payments and download receipts.

The system will also automate the calculation of solid waste management charges wherever applicable. If a business expands its area or increases the number of beds after the initial assessment, the system can generate an additional demand after adjusting the amount already paid.

Cart owners will be able to apply for registration and renewal through the new platform. Registration certificates will carry unique plate numbers and will be issued after payment and verification of identity documents. However, the KMC has capped the total number of registered carts at 20,000. No fresh registrations will be allowed once the limit is reached.

The platform will support online payments as well as payments through the corporation's common collection system. Users will also be able to reprint receipts and check payment details.
