India, July 15 -- AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday sought an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss concerns over E20 petrol, demanding that consumers be given the option to choose between pure petrol and ethanol-blended fuel and that the price of E20 be reduced. In his letter to the prime minister, Kejriwal said there was "a huge public outcry" over the use of E20 petrol in vehicles that are not compliant with the fuel standard. The AAP leader said he wanted to personally explain the technical issues and the feedback received from people during his proposed meeting with the prime minister. Kejriwal said his two key demands were that petrol stations should provide both pure petrol and E20 fuel options so that vehicle owners could make a choice and that the price of the blended fuel should be reduced, considering the lower mileage concerns. "If someone wants pure petrol, they should get that option, and those wanting E20 should also have that choice," he said. Kejriwal also claimed in his letter that nearly 30 crore registered two-wheelers and four-wheelers manufactured before 2023 were not E20-compliant and said owner manuals of these vehicles generally advised the use of pure petrol or, in some cases, E10 petrol, but not E20. He alleged that owners of such vehicles were facing reduced fuel mileage, accelerated wear and tear and possible damage to engine and fuel-system components due to the lack of alternatives. mpost
