Malda, Sept. 22 -- Former West Bengal minister and Democratic Trinamool Congress (DTC) MLA from Sujapur, Sabina Yeasmin, has been summoned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with road blockades during protests against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and subsequent incidents of violence in Kaliachak and Mothabari.
The NIA has issued a notice asking Yeasmin to appear for questioning as a witness. According to Yeasmin, the notice was served on September 20.
"There was a road blockade in the Kaliachak-Sujapur area in protest against SIR. I have been summoned as a witness in connection with that incident," Yeasmin said.
She said the NIA had indicated that questioning could take place at three locations-her residence, office or Kaliachak police station. "I have informed them that I will appear at Kaliachak police station by 3 pm on September 24. I will cooperate with the investigation in every possible way," she said.
Yeasmin also pointed out that her husband, Mehebub Alam, had earlier been summoned by the agency on August 14.
"He also appeared and helped the investigation. I will do the same. After that, I will say whatever needs to be said," she added.
