New Delhi, June 8 -- Delhi Traffic Police and the MCD have decided to implement a coordinated action plan to tackle unauthorised parking and encroachments on public roads, an official said on Monday.
The decision was taken during a virtual coordination meeting chaired by Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Sanjay Tyagi, attended by zonal deputy commissioners of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), senior traffic police officers, assistant commissioners of police and traffic inspectors, Delhi Traffic Police said in a statement.
The coordinated drive is expected to be rolled out across various parts of Delhi in the coming weeks, the officer said.
According to the statement, unauthorised parking and illegal occupation of public spaces have emerged as major factors contributing to traffic congestion, road safety concerns and disruptions to the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians across the national capital.
During the meeting, participants reviewed challenges faced by both agencies in enforcing traffic and municipal regulations. Officials observed that encroachments and illegal parking not only hamper traffic management efforts but also affect accessibility, public convenience and the overall appearance of the city.
"It was unanimously decided that all departments concerned and field formations would work in close coordination to identify and remove encroachments and take strict action against unauthorised parking," read the statement.
The action plan will include regular joint inspections by traffic police and MCD officials, intensified enforcement drives, improved inter-departmental coordination and continuous monitoring of vulnerable locations.
The agencies also agreed to strengthen information-sharing mechanisms and ensure timely intervention at congestion-prone stretches
where illegal parking and encroachments frequently obstruct traffic flow.
Police said the initiative aims to facilitate smoother and safer movement on city roads while improving road discipline and public convenience.
