New Delhi, Sept. 21 -- Jewellery and cash worth around Rs 40 lakh were allegedly stolen from a house in south Delhi's Sangam Vihar area while the family was out celebrating a birthday, police said on Monday.
The police received a call regarding the burglary at Neb Sarai police station on Monday in Sangam Vihar, following which they reached the spot, they said.
A team inspected the scene and lifted a few fingerprints, which are being examined, police said, adding that multiple teams, including beat staff, have been deployed to identify and apprehend the accused.
Bilal Ahmed, the house owner, said the theft took place around 10 pm when his elder daughter's birthday was being celebrated.
"I came back around 11 pm and found the main door's glass broken, Ahmed said, adding that on entering the house, the door of his room was also found open, with a broken almirah and locker.
"Jewellery and cash worth around Rs 40 lakhs were stolen. The accused must have conducted recce before. They would have been living nearby only," he alleged.
