Bihar, Sept. 22 -- The key accused in the alleged molestation of two Class 10 students in Bihar's Jamui was arrested after being injured in an encounter with police, officials said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Nandan Yadav, was reportedly injured after police opened fire during the encounter. Preliminary reports said he sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment.
The incident follows the alleged harassment and molestation of a Class 10 girl in Jamui, with footage of the incident circulating on social media and triggering widespread outrage. The girl and a male classmate were reportedly confronted by a group of youths while they were in an area on the outskirts of Jamui. According to reports, the students had gone to the area after tuition classes. They were allegedly stopped by a group of youths, who assaulted the boy and harassed the girl. The incident was recorded, and the video later surfaced online, prompting police action. Police have so far arrested several accused in connection with the case, while efforts are continuing to trace others allegedly involved. An investigation team has also been constituted to look into the incident.
The National Commission for Women has taken note of the case and sought a report from the Bihar Police.
