Kolkata, Sept. 20 -- On Saturday night, Jadavpur witnessed a series of incidents of vandalism, with the residence and office of former TMC MLA Debabrata Majumdar, now with Mamata All India Trinamool Congress (MAITC), allegedly attacked. The residence of former TMC councillor Basundhara Goswami and several MAITC and CPI(M) offices were also allegedly vandalised, triggering tension in Bijoygarh, Baghajatin and adjoining areas.

Majumdar alleged that around 100-150 people, whom he described as outsiders who had recently joined the BJP, arrived at his Bijoygarh residence. The group allegedly pelted stones at the house, broke window panes and damaged CCTV cameras. His brother and sister-in-law were abused and threatened. His office at Bijoygarh market was also vandalised.

Goswami alleged that her residence was ransacked by a motorcycle-borne group, which she claimed was armed and carrying BJP flags. "The BJP is trying to terrorise opposition parties, but they cannot keep us indoors," she said.

Several CPI(M) offices were also allegedly targeted. In Kusum Kanan, a CPI(M) office was vandalised and party flags and flexes were allegedly torn down. The CPI(M) martyrs' memorial in Ward 96 was attacked, while a memorial dedicated to 1960s martyrs at Anandapalli was also allegedly vandalised. CPI(M) workers alleged that they were abused and threatened.

Videos circulating on social media purportedly show groups of men, some wearing saffron scarves, involved in attacks and vandalism. However, the authenticity of these videos has not been independently verified by Millennium Post.

Majumdar lodged a written complaint at Jadavpur police station. No arrests have been reported so far. MAITC leader Kunal Ghosh condemned the incidents and alleged police inaction, questioning why arrests had not been made despite CCTV footage allegedly capturing the attackers.

On Sunday morning, MAITC organised a protest rally in Jadavpur against the attacks. Baishwanar Chattopadhyay, Upasana Chowdhury, Goswami and Majumdar attended the rally.
