India, July 24 -- Delhi Police on Thursday alleged that Inspector Nand Kishor Singh was attacked and injured by protesters near Jantar Mantar while on his way to duty on Wednesday night. Singh claimed he was surrounded by 100-150 people from a crowd of 4,000-5,000, who assaulted him with sticks, stones and sharp objects while he was in uniform. Police said several personnel were injured during the clashes and action is under way to identify those responsible. Head Constable Balram also alleged he was stabbed with a sharp weapon. Police urged protesters to maintain peace and reject violence.
