Kolkata, Nov. 5 -- The Kolkata Police Detective Department on Thursday questioned Avery Sen, daughter of former minister Indranil Sen, in connection with an alleged multi-crore scam involving the distribution and sale of Durga Puja passes.
Avery, who had allegedly skipped several summonses, appeared before investigators to record her statement. Police are examining the flow of funds from an organisation associated with Indranil Sen into the bank accounts of his daughter's company and his wife, Machhanda Sen.
Investigators said Avery's statement was crucial to establishing her knowledge of the alleged transactions and the transfer of substantial sums into her company's accounts. Police are also considering questioning her alongside her father.
Meanwhile, Dhruvajyoti Basu alias Shubho, secretary of MassArt, was arrested near Poddar Court in central Kolkata on Wednesday night. The SIT arrested Basu following a tip-off. He had allegedly gone underground after the Calcutta High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
Produced before a court on Thursday, Basu was remanded to police custody till November 13. The prosecution sought 14 days' custody, alleging that crores had been generated through the sale of passes in UNESCO's name. His lawyer opposed the plea, claiming Basu had cooperated with investigators through e-mail.
